Statuses of a project

List of statuses

In preparation: The project is currently being defined.
Awaiting quotation: This step is optional and is used to indicate that the project validation process has been suspended until a quotation is received.
Pending validation: Preparation of the project is finished; it is waiting to be validated by the authorized persons. This additional step is optional.
Validated or Pending implementation: The project is validated but has not yet started.
On Going: The project has started.
Closed: The project is finished.
Archived: The project will no longer be modified.
Canceled: The project has been cancelled.

If the rights allow, the project can be created directly with the "Pending validation," "Validated," or "In progress" status.

Status inheritance

Modification of the status of a project is interdependent on the status of the work orders in its hierarchy for which the Status inheritance box is checked; see Work order [Association].

If modification of the status is not possible for one of the descendants to which the inheritance applies, it is simply forbidden.
If there is no status inheritance between two work orders, their respective statuses are totally independent.

How inheritance works:

If the project (or a work order having descendants) changes to the "Pending validation," "Validated" or "Finished" status,
→ Then the hierarchical descendants must change to the same status.
If the project (or a work order having descendants) is closed,
→ Then the hierarchical siblings inheriting the parent's status must be closed.
If a project or work order switches back to the "in progress" status after having been closed or finished,
→ It does not impact the other work orders in the hierarchy.

Inheritance of work order statuses within a hierarchy

Rules for propagating status transitions within a hierarchy:

The status inheritance rules described in this section relate only to work orders in a hierarchy of work orders and whose hierarchical link is defined with the "Status inheritance" check box enabled.
For each work order status transition, the repercussion rules are defined in the table below.

There are three different types of repercussion for propagating a status transition within a hierarchy of work orders:

Repercussion to descendants of the work order undergoing the transition,
Repercussion to ascendants of the work order undergoing the transition,
No repercussion to work orders in the hierarchy.

	Validated	Descendants	Transition authorized only for work orders: which do not have a hierarchical parent: which have a hierarchical parent and do not inherit the parent's status. Transition propagated to all hierarchical descendants that inherit the parent's status. If one of the child work orders that inherit the status of the parent work order cannot be changed to the "Validated" status, none of the work orders change to this status.
	Cancelled	Descendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical descendants of the work order inheriting the status of the parent work order. Transition performed only if all descendants that inherit the parent's status change to the "Cancelled" status.
Pending validation	Validated	Descendants	Transition authorized only for work orders: which do not have a hierarchical parent: which have a hierarchical parent and do not inherit the parent's status. Transition propagated to all hierarchical descendants that inherit the parent's status. If one of the child work orders that inherit the status of the parent work order cannot be changed to the "Validated" status, none of the work orders change to this status.

	On Going	Ascendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical ascendants of the work order if status inheritance is enabled.
	Completed	Descendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical descendants of the work order inheriting the status of the parent work order. Transition performed only if all descendants of the work order change to the "Completed" status.
	Closed	Ascendants	Only if all hierarchical siblings of the current work order are closed.
On Going	Cancelled	Descendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical descendants of the work order inheriting the status of the parent work order. Transition performed only if all descendants that inherit the parent's status change to the "Cancelled" status.
	Completed	Descendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical descendants of the work order inheriting the status of the parent work order. Transition performed only if all descendants of the work order change to the "Completed" status.
	Closed	Ascendants	Only if all hierarchical siblings of the current work order (that inherit the status of the parent work order) are closed.
Completed	On Going	None	No repercussions on the status of work orders in the hierarchy.
Completed	Closed	Ascendants	Only if all hierarchical siblings of the current work order (that inherit the status of the parent work order) are closed.
Closed	On Going	Ascendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical ascendants of the work order if status inheritance is enabled.
	Archived	Descendants	Transition conducted only if all descendants (without exception) change to the "Archived" status.
	Cancelled	Descendants	Transition propagated to the hierarchical descendants of the work order inheriting the status of the parent work order. Transition performed only if all descendants that inherit the parent's status change to the "Cancelled" status.
